Rules:

  1. Upgrades using the design workshop can only be done at the end of the turn. This to prevent upgrading eg a simple scout rover to the best model available and let it attack the same turn - makes it harder to defend.
  2. Retro-engineering allowed, except for using basic unit types such as probe teams, AI formers, etc...
  3. Stockpiling in Build Queues is allowed. Also, please note, that if you leave the queue empty after the facility or secret project you get additional energy. You can leave queue empty and use this additional energy.
  4. Multiple drops or orbital insertions using the right-click menu is forbidden. So is airdropping from outside a base/airbase, or after having moved (except on a magtube) using the same method.
  5. Base growth through Colony Pods - can be used to increase a base size up to the applicable pre-facility limit, but cannot be used to breach that limit without the facility being built.
  6. Psi (or any other) units cannot be assigned multiple waypoint patrol routes (to avoid instant demon boil bug)
  7. No base trading with the AI. No trading base for base, no trading base for money. Extortion and gifting is allowed.
  8. It is not allowed to trade technology to AIs in exchange for credits if as a result the AI's energy reserves would go into the negative.
  9. Cannot change an infiltrated faction's workers to specialists, for example by using the F4 screen (or the bases icon of the F2 screen)
  10. Council notification - immediate broadcast to all players (Post in the thread and e-mail to all immediately by player who has called elections, citing candidates and votes. After each player's turn, post in the thread the running totals)
  11. If an aggressive probe action (anything except infiltration) is used on a faction you have a truce, treaty or pact with, you must select 'Declare Vendetta' in the dialog box that appears afterwards, and notify the victim of your transgression, unless you have received permission in advance. No notification is required in other cases.
  12. Demanding withdrawal to a human player through the menus rather than by negotiation in the forum by private message or email is prohibited.
  13. Bribing (or accepting bribes) for votes through the diplomatic channel box by clicking on the human faction leader's picture is prohibited (must be conducted by diplo message or e-mail).
  14. Multiple reloading of the game to try for different effects is forbidden. If a reload is necessary because of a game crash etc., an explanation should be posted to the turn tracking thread.
  15. Secret projects may be hurried with crawlers.

  16. Planet Busters and Copters are banned. Atrocities committed between human factions are banned. Simple atrocities (as defined in the Datalinks) committed between factions of different species are allowed.

  17. This bug is not allowed: On the turn a terraformer completes its terraforming task, its "flag" will be grayed out indicating that it has moved. Clicking on and activating the terraformer will allow a new terraforming command to be issued to the terraformer with the correct number of turns to completion displayed. Clicking on and activating the terraformer again, cancelling its new orders; at this point, the terraformer will have regained one movement point. Using the more advanced technique of this bug is also disallowed.

Notes:

  1. Accelerated start: all faction will get 2 Colony pods, 1 scout and a Unity former droid.
  2. The 'Unity former droid' is a former unit that you cannot reverse engineer. You will have to research Centaury Ecology to be able to build more.
  3. Rules are copied from Mart.
  4. Mart and vyeh will have copies of your passwords (for safety).

  1. if this is your first PBEM, then please take a look again at this post. take care when typing your password. you have only three chances to type it right and you don't want that nasty reload message to be sent to all the players in the game..
  2. there is a high chance to get slowed down in the first turns because some turns may end up in someone's spam folder, so please
save the addresses (see the Commlink section of the post above) in your contacts agenda.
  3. please keep a copy of all the turns you receive and send (you never know when you'll need them). there's a high chance that
the option 'save a copy of the sent messages...' is already activated on your email account, so, there is no need to keep them
in the game folder of your computer. just make sure you don't delete your emails. this could be very important!
  4. Faction order for this game: Caretakers -> University -> Pirates -> Spartans -> Hive -> Believers -> Usurpers. Please use this step-by-step guide if you are a victim of the SMAX faction graphics bug.

Please feel free to post questions/comments in this thread. You can contact me by email (see commlink section above) or by IM (see my profile)

I will need a volunteer to send me 'in copy' the turns. I want to make sure from time to time that every thing works fine.

Splendid introduction; thanks for this professionalism!

Question:

No Planet Busters, No Atrocities and no Copters.

Is it ok for humans to atrocitize aliens and vice versa?

Other question about PBEM:

(4) Choose Load Multiplayer Game.

(5) Load in the game you received via email.

Shouldn't I first move the received gamefile to Saves or Scenarios? Which one?

PLEASE, don't zip, compress or anything! Think about people too old for having had computer courses at school!!!!

Nice invitation! :b:
Splendid introduction; thanks for this professionalism!

thank you

..Question:

Is it ok for humans to atrocitize aliens and vice versa?

this has been discussed here:

I've seen those rules before. It will be up to zsozso whether he likes those rules or not. (You are aware that using nerve gas against the Caretakers is not an atrocity, right?)

Since he is playing against a progenitor faction, he may feel that he needs the nuclear option.:)...

this is the Datalinks entry for 'Atrocities':

i will modify the rule #16 in the first post to make it less ambiguous.

..Other question about PBEM:

move it in the save folder first.

2102 to Zsozso, I had to re-save the file because it saved it in a different folder, I've told Zsozso this in the e-mail I attached the file to as well.

Sorry for the delay, I did not have access to SMAC for a few days. I should be speedy from now on.

Bah, contrary to your sig, you've got a life after all!

2103 to Legion Prime. :arr:

Some thinking out loud:

I know where I am...but where are the others? Did Bandv prepared for us a few bad surprises? I mean, we play at talent and AIs shouldn't be much of a challenge, but it could be some pain in the *** at the beginning.

Let's imagine: Bdanv put everyone close to his nemesis or some fearful opponent

- on the same continent, the University, and the believers on Garland Crater

- another continent, caretakers, and the Hive or Spartans in the Monsoon Jungle

- usurpers on an island, forcing them to go flexibility and challenge me

Something like that.

We'll see!

BTW, I'm writing a Pirate Log every turn, so I could post it at the end and people will tell me what were the big mistakes.

2105 to Legion Prime

A question:

It wasn't totally clear for me: are copters and busters banned by CMN removing them totally from the scenario, or are they forbidden for human players but AIs can build them?

copters and busters are banned only for human use. this is not enforced into the scenario.

2106 to Legion Prime.

Aha, I had better ask then! Would have been a bad surprise to receive an Usurper buster on my best base!

Question to Zsozso and Legion Prime:

I just read that, didn't know about it. Do we use it or will you consider it an exploit? How is it usually in MP? It can quickly make a huge difference. Bdanv lets us make the decision.

I would consider it an exploit, I never use that in SP either. OTOH, I use something similar in SP, but I think that one is more logical and not really an exploit: when a crawler arrives to the desired spot and it used up its movement point, you would have to wait until next turn to start collecting the resource. But if you click on it and then press O, you can select what resource to crawl-in and it will start in that turn already. I consider this one fair, because it is compatible with other uses of the crawler: if it arrives into a city using up its movement, it can still start crawling resource into the city or it can be used for a secret project right away, so it is logical to do the same on out-of-base resources too.
