Isn't Venice the best civ?

2 posts in this topic

When you check the hierarchy of civs, Venice is almost always in the last place. However, I find Venice in almost any setting to be the most flexible and powerful civ. The ability to buy city states and double trade routes does generate a great city of Venice with lots of cash. Diplomatic victory is the most obvious one but even if you want to go to war, you can just buy military units (Big Ben, Commerce policy and -33% for units from Ideology are extremely useful here).

In short, I just don't get all the hate/misgivings Venice gets.

I think Venice gives you a very different experience which is a good reason for playing it. I also found I had less to do as you do tend to get nudged towards a particular type of play. As someone who plays for fun rather than winning or min/maxing I found it a bit boring ultimately but glad it was included.
