Minecraft Realms Server

Anybody interested?

I have a 1 year rental on a realms server, that I set up for some of my students to do school projects on.

School ends in 4 weeks, or so, and I will have about 5 months left on the server.

I can let the last couple of kids stay and play over the summer; or I can clear them off and let it host us. Or, I can do both and get the 3 kids who are still playing (all are spec ed kids - nice, but rather crazy in the game environment and all are in the 14-18 year old range) continue to play and invite those who want to play do so.

I can also start a new world, or you can continue to use the one they are messing around it (they are in creative mode - so there really are some crazy things in the game).

Realms servers are a bit different than just a IP address hosted server. First, I have to have your user name and send you an invite, instead of you just getting the IP and you logging in. Second, I believe they are hosted in the US, and I know I didn't have many issues with Dales but you never know. Third is that it will auto update to the most current MC version; whether it breaks the game or not. I haven't seen a game breaker yet - but it can happen. Other than that is it just little things that you probably wouldn't notice.

I wouldn't be doing any maps.

If interested, you can post your username below (or PM me) along with what you would prefer to happen with the few students who are on it.

My personal preferences:

Let the 3 kids say on it (we just have to watch our language, but that shouldn't be an issue).

Restart with a new world - normal survival mode. The 3 kids would likely stop playing to be honest, as they are not really adapt at survival, just creative.

I don't have anything in mind to build right now - but hanging out with some folks now and then would be fun. Note: most of July I will be in the middle of adopting my baby girl, so I won't be online myself I expect - but after we get back home between diapers who knows!

I've actually started playing this again. I'd be up for it, but I'd think we'd need enough interest to be worth us using the server.

Id be up for it.

My vote is let the kids stay and spin up a new survival map.

I would be interested in a new survival server game as well.

Sharpe is my 1.8.4. login name - but if that doesn't work I could revert back to Velegon.

Let me warn the kids next week, and then I will start tossing out invites. You can enjoy the creative world for a couple weeks while these three finish up their projects (I think they are just goofing off, but who knows, one may actually decide to try to graduate on time). I will then save their creative world and then start a new seed world. Should be mid June or so when the switch happens.

As I will be away, I will hit someone up with ops powers as a just in case. Won't be able to restart a broken world, but will be able to (if necessary) run commands to teleport people out of impossible situations.

Sent GK my login info (I think). Can you send us the login info for the server?

I invited Sharpe and Arnelos to the server. See if you can connect. The 3 kids are Dalethomas (Dale), kebeo11 (Kobe) and xxMikepachXz (Crystal - she inherited this account from her friend Mike). They all know to expect you.

This is their creative world, so if you do get in feel free to explore a bit and have some fun (you are also ops for now, so you can teleport around if you like).

Oh, for a realms server.

Start Minecraft like normal.

Hit play.

When you get to the screen with 3 options (single play, server play, or realms play) pick realms.

You should see a server named "Olson's Server - for use with OFTA students". That is me. It is still in the creative you can go crazy mode.

See if you can get in.

Just logged in and it went fine. kebeo11/Kobe was on when I logged in.

Poked around a little - there's a lot of stuff there.

Ya, it is basically 7 months of kids playing in creative mode. There are a few project that kids did for school, along with a few demo's I made (in particular a volcano, and a small area to start an egypt temple (with odd parrots I put on top of one building... don't ask).

Hoping to get a few more folks that might be interested.... pm or post your username. I can have up to 20 people on the server, so more than enough room for everybody.

How long until you figure you'll reset to a survival world?

Probably next week sometime. Might be this weekend. Want to make sure the kids get what they need off this server.

I set up a small base camp near the spawn - has a bed - some wool, little bit of iron, coal, stone. Growing some wheat there too.

Sheep are mostly on the mountain, pigs are there too - haven't seen any cows yet.

Larger server map - spoilers if you don't want to know :)

Base camp is in relatively good shape for a rough first start.

Spawn area is a roofed forest biome, so monster spawns are plentiful and the monsters tend to persist in daylight. It's taken some work to cut the trees back, build up a secure spawn area and fenced-in enclosures for future farms & animal pens.

Once the enclosures extend out further, we can start setting up all of the food at spawn and then put up walls the spiders won't jump. If someone can find cats, we could also use those to keep away the creepers.

For now, though, it's VASTLY more secure than when we first logged in and were being beset by witches and creepers at the spawn point itself.

Future Plans:

My own future plan is to start with a project on the coastline between the swamp and forest hill biomes directly east of spawn (on the other side of that mountain range there).

Been mostly digging after setting up the initial farm area.

Been looking mostly for more coal but finding most everything else instead ;) - working my tunnel towards the southern village near 60x 800z for future villager supply (admittedly would be much faster via nether tunneling but not ready for that yet). Village is mostly a farm village with potatoes and carrots.

Not sure yet where I will set up a project - but given the huge amounts of extreme hills and swamplands near the spawn point, we will need a nether railroad system to get anywhere fast I suspect. Though as Arn said in game - overland rail system would be much more scenic :) .

Also might want to look for dogs to scare away the skeletons ;).

Brought over and set up pens for sheep, cows, pigs and chickens.

Haven't bothered with rabbits yet - and haven't found any horses, donkeys, cats or dogs yet.

Increased the size of the base house and created an enchanting table (no bookshelves yet).

Eventually, I figure a large portion of that 'hidden valley' starting area could get filled by animal pens, crop fields, tree farms, a storage warehouse, a secured & cordoned nether portal, and a train terminal. We can use it as the central hub for food & other supplies as well as a transportation hub with connections radiating out to the other areas.

With that sort of "home base" secure, we could then each easily head off in our own directions, yet still have that secure base to fall back on.

With all of those animals there now, I guess we really can call the base the "Hidden Valley Ranch" base ;)

Travelled east to the jungle (died :( then came back) dropped off some melons and coffee and planted some melon seeds - sorry didn't see any cats or get any jungle saplings ...

I'm way up north in a plains biome. There is a stronghold here. I located it and emptied it, isn't very big. Though I suspect it's been overlaid with other things so will keep exploring the caves up here to see if anything else of the stronghold survived.

Heading north from the spawn you'll come across horses, pigs and sheep.

Anybody want to pick a theme for the spawn area?

I am leaning on making a base near the ocean, right where the swamp connects to it on the northern edge. Not sure if that is the same area you were thinking Arn.
