Corgi guns in XCom 2. Horse Empresses in CK2. What next?

So I tend to stream LPs of various games while at work. Been streaming Arumba's Kingdom of David game lately. He started culling out all of the prisoners he had taken that weren't worth any ransom. The sound effects are awesome. There are the standard screams, etc., but the best one is a random bear roar for when one of the prisoners is executed.

Very happy that Paradox is still releasing new content for CK2. 2K could learn a thing or two from the way they work to hold their players' interest.

I think I'm going to dive back into CK2 in the near future. What DLC do you have Alexander, and how would you score each one?

I've got all the DLC for the moment, except for the heavy metal music ones. I picked up the ones I was missing on a holiday sale. Each one adds a new dimension to the game, so I really don't think I could do without any of them at this point, now that I'm used to playing with them.

But if prioritizing is a must, then I'd say go with the ones that open up new time periods and new factions to play. So that's what, the Old Gods for pagans, Sword of Islam for Muslims, Sons of Abraham for Jews, Rajas of India for Hindus, Jains and Buddhists, the Republic for republics, Charlemagne for early medieval Europe, Horse Lords for nomads, Legacy of Rome for restoring the Roman Empire, and Sunset Invasion for ahistorical invading Aztecs (only if that floats your boat, I never use this one unless I'm in the mood for things to get crazy). So I guess pick which of those you're most likely to play. I definitely got my money's worth out of The Old Gods and Charlemagne.

The others like Conclave, Way of Life and Reaper's Due primarily expand what sort of things you can actually do, making the game more eventful and exciting.

The upcoming Monks and Mystics looks interesting too, but I'll probably wait until it's on sale before I pick it up.

I've got Rome, Raja, Abraham, Republic, Old Gods, Islam and Charlemagne, so it looks like I'm pretty well covered. I might have to pick up Horse Lords and the others in the next sale.....

Quill started up a new LP of CK2 that's been amusing to watch so far.  He's the count of Paris and his current guy is a one-handed, stressed, paranoid, possessed, secretly Shia (while living in Paris) assassin.

It actually makes me want to play this game again.  It's been a very long time since I was serious about playing CK2 again even though it was my first Paradox game.  I did a successful world conquest run (starting as a count in the duchy of Toulouse) before the India expansion and since then I just haven't ever been able to get back into it.  Things have obviously changed a lot since then and the game is even more geared to role-playing than before, which is I think what my problem has been the two times I've tried to play in the past few years.  I keep thinking with a conquest demeanor, carried over from EU4, when the game is not geared to that.

Thinking I might try to get into this again when my Civ6 game as France is finished.  Might play in France too, or Italy.  I kind of want to play as a pious, holy zealot, at least for my first character.  After that who knows.

So for the people who have played this more recently than the India expansion, any tips?

I've been dabbling a bit here and there but haven't played a serious game of CK2 in a long while. Like you, my last try was playing as a pious noble in Italy. Was having some fun with it before I got distracted with some other game and forgot to go back. I also haven't gotten the past few expansions so I can't really comment on a lot of the improvements they've put in for well over a year now.

I wish I had the free time to do an AAR as I'm playing. I think that would go a long way to helping keep me going. Maybe when my girls are a bit less needy.

I think I have all of the expansions except the new one coming out (Jade Dragon), but I probably won't purchase that one until it's on sale since I don't intend to play in the east right now.  Even though I haven't played CK2 any more than a total of about two or three hours in the past two years I've still been keeping up with the expansions when they come on Steam sale.

I also probably have a little more time to play.  My son is 12 and when he's not doing his homework he likes the 1-player games like Minecraft, etc.  We play 2-player games like the various Marios and Mario Kart too, but during the school year it's harder for him to find a large block of time to play on school nights.  Maybe I'll do a full-blown AAR.  I've mostly been doing just recaps with my recent Civ6 games, but if I can get fully into CK2 again a full AAR might be warranted.

Not this weekend though.  It's my 15th anniversary get-away with my wife.

Oh and I'm still waiting for you to go back and try your Jerusalem campaign again.  That was "teh awesum". :1st:

Congrats and have a great weekend!

As you'll no doubt guess, I haven't played a thing in a number of months. I'm not sure what happened, all of a sudden I just didn't feel like playing a thing! I'm starting to get the urge again though, thinking about deep diving into a game now and then. I think I've just got to decide what game to choose adn I'll be off.......

Nevermind, false alarm. Thought I saw a sale, if I did it wasn't on steam.

So I was watching a Quill LP yesterday that may have convinced me to purchase Holy Fury and try playing this again (after multiple times of not being able to get back in).  Apparently there is a hidden easter egg in Holy Fury that gives the ability to play with some special new cultures (including some new artwork) that could be fun to play.
