The Political Compass

103 posts in this topic

There's a pretty interesting website which offers a free test to determine whether you are more left-wing or right-wing, a more libertarian or authoritarian mind, with countless varieties in between those two ends of the political spectrum.

It presents a test which contains many questions concerning most of the most important political values and issues, which are up to you to answer as honestly as possible. I did it too and these were my results:

Economic Left/Right: -1.38

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.46

Here's the link to that site:

interesting site :)

Economic Left/Right: -2.25

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.87

What that equates to is my 'red dot' landed on the lower left had quadrent, in the 'Left Libertarian' area, where people like Ghandi hang out.....but not as far over to the left ;)

From Memory... I took this test back around 2001 and then again around 2005.

2001 DC

Economic Left/Right: 0.64

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.43

2005 DC

Economic Left/Right: 1.35

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.21

If I were to take it today, I would probably be a little farther south toward Libertarian and perhaps a little farther right on the economic scale.

I am surprised how balanced everyone is here. Either we are all "reasonable" people or the algorithms were changed. I recall how on Apolyton , most people were ending up with -6 and -8s in the Left Libertarian realms.

SlowwHand (!) When did you leave the republican party :(;)

So DC, do you agree that I write that down as your terminate result?

To be honest, I'm not that surprised by this.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Maybe they really tweaked it a bit.

I don't know - the last ten years have been quite epic in how the western world views itself imho. I was always a non-political beast myself, but Bushes legacy for me has been to make me much more interested in world affairs and just what my government/corporations do in my name and with my vote/money.

Add in all the enviromental madness we have become aware off and i'm hopefull we can turn it all around before greed and lack of moral fibre destroys the world :b:

I think maybe we are just all much more aware of what is going on, which is a good thing.

El Cid... with what you said that would perhaps justify people falling more into the left/libertarian realms- but it seems people here fall more toward the center.

...environmental madness

>>before greed and lack of moral fibre destroys the world

I'll agree with the opposition to "moral fiber" ... but greed is good for motivating people to achieve and produce things.

Each time someone gives something away for free- you hurt someone who needs to get money- thus when the world gives free food to african countries, they hurt the african farmers who can't sell their (perhaps overpriced) foods... so the farmers just give up.

Looks like none of us need bother to join any of our respective parties of government!

Not a die-hard fascist or moral majority member amongst us. How come most of us end up with Friedmanite bigots as our representatives? Do only liberals play TBSG's or wish to engage in sexual congress with Pandas?

I didn't want to select any extremes, I'll retake the test.

I tried doing that the first time, and both of my scores were practically zero.

There was no option for "very." :p:

p.s. It was "strongly." ;)

Perhaps they are out working and making money and being productive?

How is Milton Friedman a bigot, by the way?
