SAVE FILE ATTACHED!

I feel sorry for the poor drones :(

they wiped out university and collective too very early on

kinda killed the game really I was hoping to have an intrigue one not just full on war but with aliens seems they don't want anything else from the start o-o

also they don't seem to fight each other even though they are supposed to be worst enemies and such? is it actually possible for them to ally with each other I dunno? Is there any way to check who is allied with who?

P.S. Staff people http://weplayciv.com/forums/images/attach/sav.gif (after "Attached Files File Type:") is 404

actually they are in Truce right now in your game.

Is there any way to check who is allied with who?

you have to right click on their names in the commlink pop-up like in the picture bellow and then choose 'Faction Profile':

We're definitely stronger as a group than as individuals. Gotta get the band back together...

ahh thanks

is it part of their personality to wipe out humans first or did I just get unlucky? I'm probably going to restart because I didn't want to just play a war game and thats what it's turned into lol

you can find bellow some advice :smart: on the Progenitor diplo:

There can (even) be an advantage to starting near the progenitors. It's not like they start the game looking to ruthlessly annihilate all human players. They can be reasonable as long as you go along with the same social agendas as them. No different then doing diplo with the hive. They get all pissy if you run anything but police state but if you run police state they will be your best friend...

just keep in mind that you can't be friends with both of them. you'll have to side with one of them if they're both in your game.

Yeah that's why I had to beat up morgan, he got all shirty over us being socialists rather than dirty Randroids :)

So, what social agendas do the aliens like, is there any way to check? I remember caretakers seem to like Planned cos they complimented me before going mental (seemingly for no reason other than because I was pacted with the cyborgs and uni - no idea what they did to annoy them)

I never really figured what the "Infiltrator" thing means, I couldn't find a help file on it (in that game I have hunter seeker and am planetary president or w/e)

Infiltrator is when you can see inside their bases. If you click on their bases, and and the base screen comes up so you can see what units are inside and what's building and how much money they have, just like your own bases, they're infiltrated. That comes automatically for all the humans when you're govenor, and the aliens, too, when you've built the Empath Guild secret project. Or you choose "Infiltrate datalinks" when you probe their bases.

ahhhh thanks a lot :)

I have been doing well muwahha

NERVE GAS IS A BEAUTIFUL THING

like squashing bugs

popping carapaces

POP SQUEAL POP

takes 3 goes, but base goes from like size 7 to gone

they were demanding huge amounts of money to stop trying to kill me before

Oh and in about 3 turns I convene the planetary council to repeal UN charter so I use planet busters. I bribed morgan to vote with me. backstabbing drones (I shared all my tech to try help him survive the aliens and he allied with them) all gonna diiiie:) excise the cysts on planet :p

Even with the charter repealed, you're going to annoy Planet with all the nerve gas and planet busters. -Just so you know what's going on when your ecodamage shoots up and you're getting all the fungal blooms and flooding- that's why.

Just a question: do repelling the UN Charter allow you to use planet buster without all factions ganging up on you?

I thought it was too great an atrocity.

nope it allows it :)

I give up though, SO MANY giant boils of mind worms appeared the game crashed on one of the turns when they were all moving lol and I hadn't saved.

I didn't know they had a lasting effect, I thought they just turned the area to sea so kinda valid use to excise the "wound" when they have like a hundred mines in a hundred bases all clustered together polluting - but apparently they cause global warming :o

But anyway I've learned my lesson, NEVER share all tech with anyone, I think thats how the aliens got planetbusters cos I tried to help drones before he surrendered

also don't pact with anyone til you know what's going on, otherwise you might end up at war with others for no reason other than they decide they don't like your friend!

Did you actually try it?

That spring, preparing for the Battle Royale game, I tried a few things with the Pirates. Doing atrocities with them is the worst thing you can imagine!

Land cities, when swarms of ecodamage worms appear, have one turn to attack them, burn them and earn a max of ECs. But it seems that on sea the swarms of Isle of deep and especially Locusts appear AND attack at the same time, leaving you defenseless.

It was the most frightening thing that ever happened to me on SMAC/X: that can reduce a size 14 base to nothing, or just 2,3 crippled without infrastructure in one or two turns. I was easily leading, and I found myself losing miserably at the end.

So, next game, I thought I would try to prevent that: when I started nerve-gassing, all my bases had at least 4 commando AAA-empath infantry, reinforced with the neural amplifier, and ships ready in the vicinity to seek & destroy the Isle of Deep.

NUTS! Even with all that, I was lucky I just lost 1,2 bases and got 3,4 crippled. TERRIFYING, I tell you!

I stand corrected, then. I was just speculating that they'd be at a big advantage when the flooding kicked in, but it sounds like there are compensating factor for that.

Never mind.

It's still fun to do just to fight the hordes, it's like starship troopers or something utterly mad

film and haven't bothered I heard it was all nationalististic propaganda and overrated, seen some quotes by the author too :p

Heinlein's politics were definitely delusional. He was a Libertarian- a system of thought that, like communism, would be great if it worked. At all. He also seemed to have a discusting obsession with incest in his later books.

Believe it or not, his stuff is worth reading anyway. The movie was a streaming turd compared to the book- and the movie wasn't terrible. (I couldn't make heads or tails of the political subtext there, mind you.) In fact, I'd say the politics in the book are more sensibly articulated than in a lot of his work.

And besides, it's a classic for a reason. I think anyone who enjoys playing SMAC can enjoy Starship Troopers. (See also The Forever War by Joe Haldeman for the same sort of story as told by a Vietnam combat vet instead of a WWII 4F who never saw action. Also rightly considered a classic.)

The Starship Trooper's movie's were awesome. Even if I can't remember if I've watched them all or not. Or whether 1 was better than 2 or vica versa.

I liked them in any case.

I played with the Alien's for the first time there, funnily enough as the Pirates. I told the UN repeatedly to lower the sea level though.

What I feel really sucks was how on the replay map thing the landmass is as it is at the end. That's really bad. :~(

I won through transcendence. After 9 hour straight.

good work (in all the years i have been playing SMAC i don't think i have ever had the patience to go for trancendance, shame on me:scared:), and good point about the replay map.
