It's not too much trouble to just always make sure stockpile energy is the next thing in each build queue really, and as vyeh said, forbidding it has it's own complications. Additionally it has a tendency to accelerate the progress of the game by putting a few more credits in play, and that seems like a basically good thing to me.

 

I think it makes sense to leave it in, but I wanted to make sure it was allowed and that everyone was aware of it, since it wouldn't be a even playing field if some players new about it and others did not. For the record, it probably helps the planet cult less than any other faction - due to the industry penalty, we build less stuff :).

ok then, I have just never heard of this before. I don't usually use the queue anyways except for when I am making buildings could be why I have never noticed this before.

Rules:

  1. A player may not restart a turn without good reason. The player should specify the reason in the game thread if he was not able to avoid reloading the turn. (Obviously, if a player has suffered some sort of crash during a turn, such a reload is unavoidable)
  2. Stockpiling in Build Queues is allowed. Also, please note, that if you leave the queue empty after the facility or secret project you get additional energy. You can leave queue empty and use this additional energy.
  3. A player is not permitted to establish contact with another faction prior to having met them in-game.
  4. It is not allowed to mind control with standard probe teams units or bases of any faction that runs a +3 or higher SE Probe rating.
  5. If a player performs a probe team action other than to infiltrate against another player with whom (s)he is in a truce, treaty or pact, they must inform the probed player what it was they did and what they stole/sabotaged. They must also choose the 'declare vendetta/cancel pact' option when they perform the action.
  6. A player is not permitted to make more than one social engineering change per line, per turn. For instance, one is not permitted to start the turn in wealth, switch to power mid-turn for the extra disbanded minerals, and then switch back to wealth that same turn, getting the refund.
  7. A player is not permitted to use the 'demand withdrawal' feature against another player, leaving the AI the decision of whether to withdraw or not.
  8. A player may not accept a bribe from another player's AI during council sessions.
  9. A player may not use the F4 screen when infiltrated to change an opponent's workers to specialists.
  10. Council notification - immediate broadcast to all players(Post in the thread and e-mail to all immediately by player who has called elections, citing candidates and votes. After each player's turn, post in the thread the running totals).
  11. If a player declares vendetta upon another player, either directly or indirectly, they must not accept a pending diplomatic agreement between the two factions in the same turn.
  12. A player may not make air drops using the right click "air drop to" function, when it is not possible to do so with the "i" button, ie. after already having moved or made a drop.
  13. A player may not use build queue manipulation or other loopholes to hurry production at a cost that would be lower than directly hurrying the item that one intends to build.
  14. A player may not use build queue manipulation or other loopholes to build something you could not directly add to the build queue.
  15. A player may not upgrade a particular type of unit using the design workshop, and then attack with that unit in the same turn.
  16. Secret projects may be hurried with crawlers.
  17. If the charter is in effect and a human player uses a planetbuster, the other human players must declare vendetta and remain in vendetta for 10 years.

 

Notes:

  1. Map designed by Russia4Life.
  2. Players will start with 2 CPs, 2 scouts and 1 droid former, and Cult gets a mindworm and spore launcher in addition.
  3. Unity former droids, designed by Mart, are new basic units that cannot be reversed engineered. You will need to research Centauri Ecology to build more formers.
  4. AIs are not enhanced and don't get flexy starting locations.
  5. Format and rules are all copied from Mart.
  6. Darsnan, Mart and vyeh will have copies of your passwords (for safety).

Are you sure they start with a former unit? I just started a game as the Gaians and did not start with a former unit, so I checked in the faction editor and there wasn't listed any free vehicle bonus for the Gaians (whereas it did show up for the Data Angels and Planet Cult). My game is completely un-modded, so could it be that you are thinking of their ability to have formers earlier because they start with Centauri Ecology?

I assume bdanv is preparing a scenario file. When he's finished with it, he will email it to me (a double check to be safe).

 

At that point, we're waiting for a PW for St Jon. If it isn't here, we can just assign one and PM it to him.

 

It only takes a ten minutes to convert a scenario file to a game file with the passwords entered. The specs are done, so it is a matter of copying them to a new TTT thread.

 

Is that enough of an answer?

i had to start it from scratch to be able to add the former droid units and it still needs some testing.

Wasn't meant as trying to rush anyone, not familiar with the game setup of a PBEM game and was curious if there was anything else that needed done.

I just didn't want bdanv to feel pressured. I'm also eager to see his scenario file and see the changes he's made since the trial one he did for the CMN Academy.

 

I'm particularly interested in what he does with the AI's.

 

You guys can look at one of the TTT's on this forum to see how they work (bdanv is in Just for Fun).

 

It is important to specify year.

 

When you're saving files, it is probably a good idea to have both year and the faction that it is going to in the name to avoid confusion (people sending the wrong files). I'm sure bdanv also has tips.

 

I've discovered that Asky is pretty responsive to PM's.

Does everybody know how to play multiplayer?

 

(1) Launch SMAX.

 

(2) Choose Multiplayer.

 

(3) Choose hotseat/play by email.

 

(4) Choose Load Multiplayer Game.

 

(5) Load in the game you received via email.

 

(6) Put in your password.

 

(7) Play your move.

 

(8) End your turn.

 

(9) Save and exit.

 

(10) Create a new file. A format that includes an abbreviation for the game, the year and the next player helps avoid confusion, e.g. WoP_to_FF_2125.SAV was the save I received when I had to fix the game. bdanv might be able to suggest a good format.

 

(11) Email the turn to the next player.

 

(12) Post in the TTT, e.g. "2107 to bdanv;" feel free to say anything else you want but please indicate the year and where it went.

 

bdanv might have some suggestions to keep your saves organized, etc.

Oh, yeah, it's not a bad idea to check at the beginning that everything meets your expectations. Check laboratory status (F3) to see your starting tech, check your starting energy. Count the number and types of units. The Hive can check the SE switching cost (it should be 40). When you are able to switch SE, you can check to see it is 40. When your base has expanded to 2, you can check the psych readout in the base screen to see that the unmodified line reads has a drone as the second citizen.

 

I'm sure you won't find this mistake, but I had to reconstitute a game at the 25th turn. The sooner mistakes are reported the better.
