The afternoon of my day at GamesCom consisted of a 'Civmeet': a bunch of Civ fans from all over the web came together to meet up and play Civ5 together.
This was not my first Civmeet by any means. I've lost track of the count a long time ago, but the number of meets I've been to is surely a double-digit number by now (with group sizes varying from 2 to 18-ish), and I must have met at least 30-40 different online Civvers in person. My decision to come to GamesCom was made before I even knew whether or not Civ5 would be on display there. Although the knowledge that that was likely to be the case did make it more attractive to go, I mostly came to see something I'd read and heard about for many years but never experienced first-hand: a massive gaming convention where thousands of gamers of all walks of live come together
