Rules:

A player may not restart a turn without good reason. The player should specify the reason in the game thread if he was not able to avoid reloading the turn. (Obviously, if a player has suffered some sort of crash during a turn, such a reload is unavoidable)
Stockpiling in Build Queues is allowed. Also, please note, that if you leave the queue empty after the facility or secret project you get additional energy. You can leave queue empty and use this additional energy.
A player is not permitted to establish contact with another faction prior to having met them in-game. This rule has been discussed and stays.
It is not allowed to mind control with standard probe teams units or bases of any faction that runs a +3 or higher SE Probe rating.
If a player performs a probe team action other than to infiltrate against another player with whom (s)he is in a truce, treaty or pact, they must inform the probed player what it was they did and what they stole/sabotaged. They must also choose the 'declare vendetta/cancel pact' option when they perform the action.
A player is not permitted to make more than one social engineering change per line, per turn. For instance, one is not permitted to start the turn in wealth, switch to power mid-turn for the extra disbanded minerals, and then switch back to wealth that same turn, getting the refund.
A player is not permitted to use the 'demand withdrawal' feature against another player, leaving the AI the decision of whether to withdraw or not.
A player may not accept a bribe from another player's AI during council sessions.
A player may not use the F4 screen when infiltrated to change an opponent's workers to specialists.
Council notification - immediate broadcast to all players(Post in the thread and e-mail to all immediately by player who has called elections, citing candidates and votes. After each player's turn, post in the thread the running totals).
If a player declares vendetta upon another player, either directly or indirectly, they must not accept a pending diplomatic agreement between the two factions in the same turn.
A player may not make air drops using the right click "air drop to" function, when it is not possible to do so with the "i" button, ie. after already having moved or made a drop.
A player may not use build queue manipulation or other loopholes to hurry production at a cost that would be lower than directly hurrying the item that one intends to build.
A player may not use build queue manipulation or other loopholes to build something you could not directly add to the build queue.
A player may not upgrade a particular type of unit using the design workshop, and then attack with that unit in the same turn.
Secret projects may be hurried with crawlers.
If the charter is in effect and a human player uses a planetbuster, the other human players must declare vendetta and remain in vendetta for 10 years.

Thanks for setting this up. 2101 sent to bdanv.

Should we be zipping the saves before emailing? On the one hand, the compression ratio for SMAC saves is like 90%, on the other hand, I would assume that many here can also receive the unzipped files just fine.

bdanv
22-05-09, 13:31
you can zip it or not. i have no problem with that.

Thanks Bodissey for setting up the game!
Unzipped files for me too, please. And another request for JustinSane: please, add some indicator to the file name about the PBEM, e.g. M7_2101_to_zsozso.SAV instead of simply 2101_to_zsozso.SAV, because I am playing 5 PBEMs at this time, so it makes my life easier to know which save belongs to which game. Thanks!

ps: Question to all and CMN: are we playing with tech stagnation ? My tech cost is 56, but if I start playing an SP-transcend game on this map, then it is only 24.
What is your tech costs and shouldn't it be 24 if it is not tech-stag (as stated on the setup table) ?

(terribly easy to err e-mailing the turns.. I've done it twice already myself).

(what I do to avoid mix ups is put the turns I am supposed to play in the save folder, and save the turns that I send to the main Alpha Centauri folder. That way I have a record of previous turns if needed and I can easily locate the turn to send without needing to sift through a huge list of save files.)

I'm having a rather strange technical problem. New hard drive installed just fine, got everything up and running, installed SMAC, worked fine, installed SMACX, and problem.

The autoplay for the Alien Crossfire disc brings up the original SMAC loading screen. When I directly open the axstart.exe in the folder, it brings up a black screen with the white letters "Choose you" trailing off into the right edge of the screen, without any of the start up graphics. I've installed both the xp compatibility patch and the 2.0 patch.

Any ideas on how to get this working? And my sincere apologies for the delay.

eclipse4449
23-06-09, 03:25
Use the Terranx.exe instead of the axstart.exe also if you have an american/english version i have a replacement exe file for it that doesn't look for the cd

if not
go to the terranx.exe and right click on it, not the shortcut and select the combatability tab and put a check first in 640x480 box, if this doesn't add to it the run as win98

also could the graphics drivers or graphics settings been changed, for instance you now have shading or something turned on that wasn't before?

eclipse4449
12-09-09, 03:37
I'm pretty sure this is why I haven't been around here in a while. but at last a few players do want to play here so I've set up receiving emails from subscribed posts.

eclipse4449
14-09-09, 01:09
just incase the players are still here and are stll interested in this game I've GPS the newest turn I have available, it was in the "GPS" Folder

If this hold up is my fault I'm terribly sorry, I remember reformatting my system and loosing my outlook addressbook and since then I've not received a bump to where the turn is so days/weeks have gone by without a second thought.

luckily I was able to reconstruct most of my adressbook using the "Sent" folder at the gmail server but that has only help me get those I've sent emails of coarse, I have no way of knowing the rest of your addys.

again my appologies and I hope we can continue.

I'll be passing on this folks.

The window of opportunity to get into SMAC has passed, as the Civ bug has bitten again, and all my free time is devoted to that.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused and thanks for the warm welcome to the SMAC forums!!! :b:

i'm sorry to hear that. :(

The window of opportunity to get into SMAC has passed, ..

The same happened with the chance we had to revive the SMAC community.
Some bad words placed in some PMs and all we have now is a lost opportunity.
:shame:

We'll just have to build everything from scratch (or almost scratch).

If most players are still here, they want to play this game with others. There is always a bad egg in the crowd but the majority I'd bet are here to stay.

We'll just have to build everything from scratch (or almost scratch).
I suggest several poles, to get a better fell of what they really want. Like me for instance I'm here for the big games, the games that for the most part never get finshed, surely thier are others lke me who have tried these kind of games over the years only to find that people leave for various reasons.
I can point you to a very succesful group, it is that way because the moderator(s) set up a place that inspires many different challenges. and a set structure with rules. 100s and 100s of post every month, games completed every day.

It is not for SMAC, it is for CivRev the console Civ game, which is far shallower than SMAC, but allows you to play an MP game online in a time-span of 1/2-3 hours. I started playing that online this spring and I have completed several hundred games, typically a few every day. There are thousands of players online and a very active community. There is officially organized leaderboard and game-of-the-week too.

bdanv
24-09-09, 19:02

our game is far too old to draw that kind of attention, but maybe i can find some useful ideas there.

I sent you a PM but I forgot to mention that this site does not have a person or what ever they are called that sets up game, each player goes to the rules and closely sets up all these games based on that, it speeds the process and everyone knows that everyone is playing on the same field.

The only advantage we have over them is what can be done using this Forum's engine and that group cares very little about the extra bells and whistles this place has.
We could always post there mentioning our growing smac site and I'd bet we'd get a few to join otherwise they are a loyal bunch of daily players that don't post anything other than "He and I started a new game" and "I beat him and this is what happened"

I have 7 Civ3, 2 Civ4, 3 Civ4Warlords, 5 Civ4BTS but all of them are considered non-Ladder games and then I have 9 epic games with 5+ players so as you can see pbeming is my thing LOL

now let's come back to our business.
