View Full Version : Make resolution same as desktop resolution

I think that's how to word it anyway, I couldn't find the Alpha Centauri thread where you set the resolution to the same, even though I searched for

DirectDraw=0

Maybe I searched it somewhere else. Anyway.

For you people of CivIII, I am going to ask, and try and figure out, how to set the resolution to be the same as your desktop, ie, change it.

Now, I didn't see it in the preferences part when in Conquests, so I take it it's in none of them.

Alright, so basically I'm going to go into conquests.ini

And add DirectDraw=0 right below [Conquests] and hope that works.

Edit: Citizens of this forum, I can reveal to you, that doing that, does not work! It appears to do absolutely nothing.

Start > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Then I'm going to assume you slide the 'Screen Resolution' dealy to the left a bit. :dunno:

I don't want to lower my screen resolution, I want to force CivIII's to be bigger.

Oh I see, very ambitious. :b: At my level of skills if I wanted that I'd go out and get a bigger monitor. ;)

No no, that doesn't change anything.

I don't think it does anyway.

It's always going tobe at, I think 800 by 600. But in Alpha Centauri, you can force it to change to whatever your desktop is, for example 1200 by 1024, using a bit of a code.

But the code doesn't work for Civ III even though it was made after it.

That is often the way. Two steps forward and one, if we're lucky, back.

this is from cfc:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=2742147&postcount=2

the entry:

KeepRes=1
Can be 0 or 1. If 1, your screen resolution is used for the game instead of the default 1024x768.

seems to do the trick.

Do you know what file we add the code to?

They go in the conquests.ini file RMcD94 mentioned, I think.

Thanks Draz, it worked great! Anybody up for a game? :D

Just realized it looks really tiny in that window, but in 1600x900 it looks better...

Thanks to Mart and RMcD mainly :)

I don't actually own Civ II, unfortunately :(

This is the Civ III forum. I was kinda kidding, anyway. But, if anyone does want to play, I'm up for it. I can still remember all the sleepless nights I spent playing this game.

I've been spending my nights playing XCOM recently, getting that for my phone has got to be one of the least productive things I've ever done.

I could imagine how much sleep I would lose if that were on my phone...
