View Full Version : Story Lines for SMAX Factions?
First off, howdy to everyone here. :)
After playing AC/SMAX for 10+years... exclusively as the Gaians with two or three tries with the University... I finally decided to try my hand playing as the Cult of Planet, mainly out of curiosity to see how the story line differs.
What slowly became evident after the 1st 100 or so turns was that I did not receive one of the story pop-ups that I was used to seeing with Deidre; for instance, the 1st time one of my bases was attacked by a mind worm.
My question is whether or not the SMAX factions have unique story lines like the original AC factions? If not, it greatly diminishes my enjoyment out of playing any of the newer ones...

by story lines you mean the interludes and the monuments (see pictures bellow)?

Interludes! Yes, that's the word I couldn't for the life of me recall. Do the SMAX factions have unique interludes?

well, i turned that option off a long time ago and i don't remeber it.
but checking the game folder i found both interlude.txt and interludex.txt. this means that you should be able to enjoy the interludes in SMAX too.
i guess you were playing Gaians in the SMAC original game and switched to SMAX only when you started playing the Cult.
have you checked in preferences if the interludes option is activated in your SMAX game?
Actually, I have been playing the Gaians in SMAX and all of the interludes pop up as expected... I've also just tested the University in SMAX and the interludes work as well, but then switching to Planet they do not. I'll check the preferences as you suggested. Thanks!

actually, if they work with the University under SMAX then they should work with the Cult too. so i guess the option is turned on.
I remember, that sometimes I could not see interludes too for unknown reason. E.g. in multiplayer games something definitely may be broken.
One thing that I remember, is that if you start a game on original planet map, they were in place - I mean showing.
Try to start a game on planet map, one of the original.
Also, Cult starts like in 2105 instead of 2101, so maybe something is broken over there.
trying to find some answers about customizing the interludes, i finally found an answer to your question.

it seems that back in 2002 a consensus was reached about the fact that Planet Cult is the only faction that has no interludes. :(
of course there is no official confirmation, but that's all i can find.
The Planet Cult would have been better as native life allied "barbarians" that attacked from small cities. They're the worst playable faction.
